"Letoltes Ingyen Pokoli Szomszedok 2 Magyarul 1 488". A szomszedok (Szomszed, plural: szomsze) is a Hungarian word for the first friendly person you meet in the morning or after work. The word has become popular among people who are new to Hungary, partly since it is used by the national public radio but also because it can be very helpful if you're meeting other people for the first time. Often they will help you with your map or recommend where to eat. On this site you'll find some suggestions for Strangers Welcome which hopefully will help you to feel at home in your new home. The word was invented by László Dobszay, the Hungarian ambassador in the United Kingdom, who was very active with little gestures of friendliness to the Hungarian community. However, unfortunately Mr Dobszay left Budapest before he could see his work become popular among immigrants. One of his pupils, George Szalai, took on this project with his wife Ágnes which they can be proud of as now the word has become more widely used around Hungary. They have translated all available material into English and now provide their own video about it on YouTube. They were also the first who had the idea of organizing groups of people (szomszédság) to welcome other newcomers in their homes. They've already given 20 evenings to help new British Hungarian families feel more at home in their new home. They are doing it again with the benefit of professional interpreters, psychologists and childcare experts to make it run smoothly. You can see details on their website. Szomszedok 1 (Strangers Welcome 1) was shot in 2007 by women called Anna and Szilvi who later made a film about Europe for the BBC called "Making Waves" showing the positive side of people's integration process. The film was shown at different European cities and, thanks to the support of the Sozialministerium the women met Hungarian and British people who were involved in that process. Szomszedok 2 (Strangers Welcome 2) was released in December 2008. Their aim is to make Strangers Welcome more popular around Hungary and Europe. The video about it (1:50:18) has been released on youtube by Anna and Szilvi under the title "A kártya mindenkihez" (The card for everyone). Strangers Welcome 3 was released in mid-2009, featuring mainly families with children under five. As the original idea was to make it in English we also reached out to people in the UK and South Africa, who came up with the same idea independently. We started thinking of ways how we could help each other. Our version is called "Circles of Friends" and you can see what we've done so far on our websites. Similar projects can be found in most big cities in the UK and South Africa and some people have even started creating groups on Facebook where they can find their own welcome circles there. http://www.circlesoffriends.co.uk/Official website: http://www.szomszedok2. cfa1e77820
