The back cover of the 1968 version of the OPM songbook with chords contains a photo of this year's Philippine delegation to the Olympic Games in Mexico City. As you can see, they fared very well in swimming and archery, but not so well in boxing and football. You can also see two young men who we're betting were Gil Muro and Willie “Eddie” Manahan, with their trophies for winning gold medals in weightlifting respectively. The OPM songbook with chords was released in 1968. All the songs are arranged for guitar with chord symbols only (no lyrics). It's an ideal resource book to accompany your guitar playing. This is our favorite rendition of “Ang Aking Una”, arranged by Vicor de Lapena for guitar and voice accompaniment. We always sing this with its original lyrics, although there were other versions around at the time (1972) when our parents were born—tenor-baritone Vic Alano recording it with the Manila Symphony Orchestra; soprano Esther Fernandez singing it as a duet with Filipino Opera star Jorge Galli. We also recommend the version arranged by the late, great National Artist for Music Cecile Licad under the title “Ang Aking Unang Halika” (My First Step). The Philippine National Anthem is here, “Lupang Hinirang” with guitar chord symbols only. This is arranged by Rogelio Cantoral, who also arranged three other songs in this songbook. This is our favorite rendition of “Pilipinas Kong Mahal”, by Pedro Nepomuceno. It's always good to hear this song on public TV whenever the anniversary of Philippine Independence arrives. The OPM songbook with chords was published in 1968 by the Alexandria Music Company. It's in good condition. This version of “Pamilihang Muling Pag-ibig” was arranged by Vicor de Lapena for voice and guitar accompaniment, published in “Ang Aking Una”. We've heard many versions of this song—Charlie Peña's, Jose Mari Velez's, Vic Alano's—but this one is the most popular one at present among our friends. Isha Victoria, the original artist in the song “Idol”, was born in 1968 in Manila. She is now a multitalented actress (of films and theater) with two different voices (singing and acting). This version of “Sa Tsinasang Pamilya” was arranged by Vicor de Lapena for voice and guitar accompaniment. We've heard this version sung variously by Valentina Corona, Ritchie Valero, Carmina Villaroel, Lois Fernandez—and many others. This version of “Hihintayin mo Ka Ginawa Namin” is arranged by Rogelio Cantoral for voice and guitar accompaniment. 21cfa1e7782076
